SLMPD To Hold Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy The goal of the Citizenís Academy is to promote a better relationship between the police department and the community it serves and to foster a clearer understanding of a police officer's duties. The Citizenís Academy is not held to train citizens as police officers or to exercise police authority of any kind.The Citizenís Academy classes will be held on Thursday nights starting on September 8th, 2011 and will run for ten weeks.The last class will be held on November 10th, 2011.Classes will start at 7:00 PM and end at 9:30 PM.
To be eligible to participate in the Citizenís LawEnforcementAcademy, you must be at least 18 years of age and you must either live or work within the South Lake Minnetonka Police Departmentís jurisdiction.Applicants must also successfully pass a background investigation which will include a criminal history check.Prior arrests or convictions may disqualify you from participating in the Academy.
Please stop by the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department (SLMPD) to pick up an application. Return it to the SLMPD by Friday,September 2nd, 2011.The class size is limited to twelve people and applications will be handled on a first come first serve basis.Upon successful completion of the application process you will be notified of course details.
